The 4:8 Principle

I often receive emails from photographers who either have questions on how to grow their existing photography business or want to know how to start a business.  Last month, an up-and-coming photographer from North Carolina emailed me with the loaded question, “Where do I start?”.  As we jumped from the business-side to cameras, she says she knows someone who has my camera and she really likes it.  She also mentioned wanting to buy a pre-owned camera to save a little money.  Then it dawned on me that I really wouldn’t mind doing a little upgrade myself…

So, my camera body and one lens is officially in Mount Pleasant, NC this morning.  I can’t wait to get my new camera today or tomorrow!  Meanwhile, since I don’t have any pictures to post this week, I thought this would be the perfect time to share something else.

My friend sent me this e-challenge, based on Tommy Newberry’s New York Times bestselling book.   His book, The 4:8 Principle: The Secret to a Joy-Filled Life, focuses on the Philippians 4:8.  Today’s email was about being thankful for everything and focusing on all of the wonderful things in all of our lives that often are overlooked.

Without getting too mushy, I wanted to express how thankful I am.  More than anything, I am thankful for two healthy children.  While working with NILMDTS, I’ve photographed way too many families who, instead of planning what their healthy baby is going to wear home from the hospital, they are having to plan what there baby will wear in her tiny casket.  It is such a sad reminder of how short life really is.

In addition to being thankful for my family’s health, I am also SO thankful to be doing what I always dreamed about!  I have the wonderful opportunity to do what I am so passionate about- photography.  Yes, it can be challenging being a full-time mom and wife, while managing my business.  But, I wouldn’t change a thing.  I count my blessings each day to be able to balance all of these awesome roles.
